City descritpion
Perth, the capital of the state of Western Australia, is known for its museums, its cultural venues and its park which is one of the largest urban parks of the world. The main gateway to the city is the port of Fremantle which is situated about 20 kilometers to the southwest at the mouth of the Swan River.
Fremantle
In addition to Victorian and Georgian buildings, the Maritime Museum is one of the major attractions of the city. The surrounding beaches are popular with surfers.
Kings Park
The 400 ha park is composed of natural scrubland, extensive parklands and a botanical garden. Situated around Mount Eliza, the park offers fantastic views of the city and the Swan River.
Penguin Island
About 50 kilometers to the south of Perth, this island is home to little penguins, various bird species and sea lions.
