City descritpion

Osaka, the capital of the prefecture of the same name, is situated at the west coast of the island of Honshu. The city is not only an industrial center, but also one of the most important ports of Japan. About 50 kilometers from Osaka, the ancient imperial city of Kyoto invites you to discover historic temples and palaces. But also Osaka itself has some interesting sights which are worth a visit.

Tsūtenkaku
The lattice tower was built in 1956 and offers a fantastic view of the city from various observation desks.

Osaka Castle
The castle complex built in the 16th century was destroyed and rebuilt several times. Today, it comprises an area of 6 ha which is surrounded by walls and moats. At the main tower (Tenshu), a museum shows the changeful history of the castle.

Sumiyoshi-Taisha
The Shinto shrine is the main shrine of all Sumiyoshi shrines. It is a sanctuary where the kami of the sea are honoured in order to protect the seamen, travellers and fishermen.
